SONS THINKING AHEAD

Monday 27th April 2020

WHILE there is no certainty about when football will be able to start up again in Scotland, Dumbarton FC are open to creative ideas – with health and safety remaining a clear priority.

Asked about the ‘ football behind closed doors’ ideas that have been mooted recently, Sons’ chairman, John Steele, said: “At present it’s unclear when a new season will be able to get underway, and how we’ll proceed when it does.

“For small clubs like ours, season tickets and gate money remain the largest proportion of our income, so it’s a critical issue.

“It is not immediately clear how playing behind closed doors would deliver for us economically, even if it was possible. It’s an issue of scale and reach. But we remain open to positive ideas and suggestions.

“It’s vital that everyone involved in Scottish football stands together and acts creatively at a time like this.

“Health has to come first, and then the priority concern of all of us at Dumbarton FC has to be keeping the club going.

“Thanks to the support we are getting from our supporters, sponsors, staff, players and everyone in an around the club, we are managing the present crisis.

“But we need everyone to continue to pull together.”
