DUMBARTON continued their fine run of form this afternoon, beating promotion pushers Partick Thistle 2-0 at the Bet Butler Stadium.
In a high octane first half Sons found themselves under a good deal of pressure at times, but held their own with determination. A series of fine saves from Jamie Ewings also helped keep the Jags at bay.
On 21 minutes Dumbarton went in front after Partick’s Conrad Balatoni ended up tipping the ball into his own net in a goalmouth scramble. Ewings was replaced by Stephen Grindlay shortly before the break, after he sustained a dead leg.
As expected, Thistle came out bristling in the second half. It was Sons who got onto the score sheet again, however. On 63 minutes Bryan Prunty latched on to a ball on the far post and slotted home to secure the 2-0 victory.
Next Saturday Dumbarton travel to take on near rivals Airdrie United, who also secured an impressive 3-1 win away at Dunfermline Athletic today.
