DUMBARTON were denied all three points by an 89th minute equaliser from Cowdenbeath at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon, with the busy encounter finishing up level at 2-2.
The visitors enjoyed more possession in the opening 45 minutes, taking the lead early on when a defensive slip let Jamie Stevenson in to give them the lead. Sons were chasing the game for the remainder of the half.
After the break it was a different proposition. Dumbarton came out of the blocks fast and had several chances and half chances before Bryan Prunty levelled at 1-1 on 66 minutes, following a good interception and cross from Man of the Match Mark Gilhaney.
It then looked as if Dumbarton had won the game on 84 minutes, when the tireless Scott Agnew grabbed a deserved goal to make it 2-1. But as Cowdenbeath pressed back ferociously at the end of the game, Craig Moore slipped in behind the defence to make it 2-2.
Sons missed the chance to go seventh in the Irn Bru SFL First Division by not winning, but they still hold a game in hand over today’s opponents.
Next up is a tough trip to face high-flying Partick Thistle at Firhill on Saturday 9th March.
