DUMBARTON secured another famous victory this afternoon, defeating St Mirren 2-1 in Paisley through a last minute penalty.
Much of the early pressure came from Saints, but it was Sons who pressed back and went 1-0 up on 25 minutes.
Willie Gibson was the hero again, firing his free-kick in from a central position just outside the box, with the help of a slight deflection.
Dumbarton had their tails up after that and had chances to go even further ahead before the break.
In the second half, the roles were reversed. Sons started brightly, but Saints got their equaliser just after the hour through a screaming volley into the far top corner from ex-Dumbarton playmaker Scott Agnew.
St Mirren piled on the pressure relentlessly in search of a winner, leaving the visitors looking to hit back on the break.
But with only minutes remaining Dumbarton took the lead again when Kevin Cawley was fouled and Garry Fleming (pictured) powered his penalty home for 2-1.
Sons held on tenaciously at the end to claim another vital three points in the Championship race. The win moves them into second place.
