SONS SECURE FIRST WIN AT COWDENBEATH

Saturday 10th November 2012

DUMBARTON’S loyal away support celebrated wildly as their team secured a long awaited first victory of the season at Cowdenbeath, clinching a tense match 1-0.

Sons were on top for most of the first half. They went ahead on 29 minutes as Mark Gilhaney controlled a loose ball and fired into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

After the break, it was a different story. The Blue Brazil threw everything at Dumbarton in the hope of securing at least a point.

The agony piled on after Bryan Prunty’s penalty was saved on 66 minutes, and the rebound would not fall for any of the onrushing Sons players.

Though there were many close calls, some determined defending and heroics from goalie Jamie Ewings kept Cowdenbeath at bay as the game headed into time added on.

The win does not lift Dumbarton off the foot of the table, but gives fresh hope and impetus to their Irn Bru SFL First Division campaign.
