SONS SECURE FINE 3-0 WIN OVER MORTON

Wednesday 2nd January 2013

ANOTHER tenacious and inspiring performance from Dumbarton gained a hugely important 3-0 victory over league leaders Morton at Cappielow this afternoon.

Sons’ first win of 2013 was secured with a determined, well-organised and focused approach to the game on a damp afternoon in Greenock. The other big difference between the teams was that Sons took their chances, while ‘Ton squandered several of their own.

In the first half Garry Fleming put Dumbarton ahead, somewhat against the run of play, just after the half hour. Seven minutes later, Scott Agnew made it 2-0 to the delight of the vocal travelling support.

Morton came back strongly after the break, but Sons maintained their discipline and determination, resisting wave after wave of attacks before wrapping up the game on 79 minutes thanks to a well-taken breakaway goal from Bryan Prunty.

The inspiring victory, the second consecutive one following a 4-3 win against Falkirk, sets up Dumbarton well for two challenging home games against Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle over the coming fortnight.
