DUMBARTON slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Forfar Athletic at the C & G Systems Stadium in their return to action after three months.
An even first half featured some fine Ross Forbes free kicks, but the best chance for Sons came in the 37th minute when a good run by Sam Wardrop led to a fine shot by Jaime Wilson which keeper Mark McCallum did well to save.
Just before the interval a great shot from Loons midfielder Martin Scott clipped the post. But the half ended without a goal.
In the 55th minute defender Andy Munro was yellow-carded after a clash with Wilson.
But two minutes later a bizarre Ryan McGeever own goal when keeper Sam Ramsbottom’s clearing kick rebounded off his back gave Forfar the lead, and then Ramsbottom pushed away a dangerous free kick.
Manager Jim Duffy made a double change up front in the 65th minute, Stefan McCluskey and PJ Crossan coming on for Wilson and Robert Jones. As they tried to level, Adam Frizzell and Wardrop came close.
However the pressure did not pay off, and the visitors earned the three points. Sam Wardrop was named Sonstrust man of the match.
