DUMBARTON’S reserve team suffered a 4-0 defeat against Airdrie United on a cold evening at the Excelsior Stadium last night.
A determined hat-trick from Diamonds’ striker Ryan Donnelly did the damage to Sons either side of the break.
The first goal was conceded just before half time, and six minutes after the restart Airdrie United went two up.
Donnelly claimed his third five minutes later. On 79 minutes Jack Boyle, who had set up the first, fired into the top corner to add to Dumbarton’s woes.
There were chances for Sons throughout the game, including a strong effort early on from Mark Lamont, which pulled a good save out of ‘keeper Andrew Duncan.
Next up for Sons reserves is a visit from Greenock Morton, and then a trip to take on Queens Park.
