SONS READY FOR FIRST COMPETITIVE ACTION

Friday 12th July 2019

THE competitive action starts for Dumbarton tomorrow when they travel south to play League Two Annan Athletic at Galabank.

After a few friendly workouts and rigorous training sessions, Sons are hopeful of a winning start to the season.

Manager Jim Duffy said: “Obviously results were mixed during the pre-season campaign, but in terms of getting the players up to speed, we felt we took a lot from them.

“Now it is time for us to perform in the competitive arena, beginning with Annan, who we know will give us a tough test.”

The gaffer will again have to wait on the fitness of Conor Scullion and Isaac Layne, while Rory Loy remains out.

However, all four players signed last night – PJ Crossan, Ruaridh Langan, Rico Quitongo and Mati Zata – will be added to the squad on the basis that clearance is received in time.

Supporters travelling to Galabank will have fond memories of the last competitive visit there – Saturday, May 9 2009, when Sons lifted the Third Division trophy.

They have returned for a pre-season tournament and then a friendly match since then, but this is the first competitive trip since that momentous day.

Unfortunately there is no Sons Supporters Trust bus to Galabank tomorrow.

It is also worth a reminder that the match will go to a penalty shootout tomorrow if it is drawn after 90 minutes.

Kick-off is at the usual 3pm.
