DUMBARTON have been knocked out of the Irn Bru Challenge Cup at the first hurdle, going down 1-0 to Stranraer at Stair Park.
The game saw the introduction of new Sons loan signing Sam Stanton, and the return of Darren Barr to the starting line-up.
But the Championship visitors were unable to break down their League One opponents, and as with last weekend’s battle against Falkirk in the league, they lost out with just four minutes remaining.
Mark McGuigan was the man who did the damage.
Sons’ keeper Alan Martin initially made a good save, but the Stranraer striker was there to tap the ball home.
The Irn Bru Cup has proved a miserable hunting ground for Dumbarton in recent years, and attention now returns to the Championship.
Next weekend Sons host Hibernian in an all-ticket match at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium.
