SONS MOVE INTO ROUND 5

Tuesday 23rd January 2018

DUMBARTON’s Scottish Cup journey will continue next month against Morton following tonight’s 3-2 win against Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium.

Sons took a 12th minute lead via Calum Gallagher’s (pictured) clever lob, but Jason Brown equalised in 32 mins following a poor defensive clearance.

Both sides squandered decent chances before the break, the most notable being Tom Walsh’s rasping shot which evaded the Peterhead ‘keeper but skimmed the outside of the post.

Manager Aitken decided against making any immediate changes at the start of the second half and his confidence in his selection paid off when Calum Gallagher grabbed a second goal both for him and his team on 53 mins from an Iain Russell assist.

Three minutes later Russell made it 3-1 with a glancing header from a David Wilson corner.

The Blue Toon fought back and Mason Roberston gave the home side hope when he made the scoreline 3-2 with just 7 minutes left.

Sons held on despite relentless pressure from Peterhead to record the win and move into the 5th round of the competition and a tie against Morton on 10th February.
