SONS LOSE TO STIRLING

Saturday 9th July 2022

A POOR second half was to Dumbarton’s ultimate cost as they lost 2-1 at home to Stirling Albion in today’s opening Premier Sports Cup tie.

Chances were even in the first half, with David Wilson squandering a good opportunity for Sons while Robert Thomson’s shot hit the bar for Stirling.

But it was Thomson who opened the scoring on 53 minutes, heading home a cross from the left.

Kieran Moore then made it 2-0 for Stirling after slackness allowed him to run in on goal and finish.

A bizarre goal by Ross MacLean (pictured) gave Sons some late hope, but the visitors held on.

Dumbarton now face a trip to Aberdeen in the second group game on Wednesday night.
