After having to concede Saturday’s match against St Mirren because a Sons player tested positive for Covid, manager Stevie Farrell had to adapt his line-up. Left back Sam Muir making his debut and loan signing from Kilmarnock earlier in the day Kirk McKnight one of three subs.
Sons got off to bright start, with Conner Duthie firing over the bar from 12 yards, Muir shooting just wide, and David Hopkirk fouled on the edge of the box. That led to a free kick by Duthie which resulted in Ross MacLean (pictured) opening the scoring in the 40th minute.
Half-time arrived after a powerful strike by Duthie was pushed behind.
Early in the second half Hopkirk set up MacLean whose shot from a tight angle was saved. But in the 63rd minute James Lyon equalised for the visitors. Soon after a free kick by ex-Son Ross Forbes was well saved by Sam Ramsbottom.
In the 69th minute Kris Syvertsen replaced Eoghan Stokes, but in the 80th minute Stenny took the lead when ex-Son Robert Thomson headed home.
With five minutes left Kirk McKnight made his debut, replacing Callum Wilson, as Sons looked for a leveller. But it was not to be.
