SONS LOSE TO QUEEN’S PARK

Tuesday 8th February 2022

DUMBARTON’S recent unbeaten league run came to an end tonight with a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Queen’s Park.

They were behind after seven minutes when Luis Longstaff scored the opener when Liam Brown’s assist was headed across goal.

But Sons fought back and after a couple of near misses, were level after 26 minutes when a Queen’s Park defender handled in the area.

Stuart Carswell (pictured) stepped up to score his sixth goal (the fifth from the penalty spot) of the season.

The teams looked set to go in level until a slack loss of possession right on half time allowed Longstaff to score his second and restore the home side’s lead.

Despite chances falling to Joshua Oyinsan and Conner Duthie, and a late scramble in front of the Sons goal, there was no further scoring in the second half.

The run of three away matches within a week comes to an end on Saturday with a visit to Broadwood to play Clyde.
