SONS LOSE TO BAIRNS

Saturday 4th January 2020

DUMBARTON lost 3-0 away to Falkirk this afternoon, despite a brave performance overall.

With a severely injury-diminished squad, Sons started brightly, pressing the Bairns in the final third.

The home side pushed back, but it was the men from the Rock who nearly deservedly went in front on 27 minutes.

Stefan McCluskey’s cross was met by Ruaridh Langan and a powerful effort from the youngster smashed down from the bar, bouncing off the line.

However it was Falkirk who took the lead against the run of play on 38 minutes, when Charlie Telfer shot from the edge of the box and his effort took a deflection past Conor Brennan in the Dumbarton goal.

The Bairns came out in assertive fashion after the break, and on 63 minutes they were 2-0 in front. Declan McManus dived low to glance the ball home and double their lead.

Sons continued to strive against an increasingly confident Falkirk, but could not find a way back into the game, despite a brave display.

Just before the final whistle McManus added a third goal for the home side from close range, wrapping up the game decisively.
