SONS LOSE OUT TO MORTON

Saturday 13th February 2016

DUMBARTON lost out to their neighbours on a cold afternoon in Greenock, as Morton claimed all three points with a 2-0 victory.

The game started energetically, with Morton hitting the post and Sons creating several goalmouth scrambles in the first 20 minutes.

The energy sapped from the match beyond that, with neither side able to open their account by the end of the first half.

After the break the men from Greenock pushed forward even harder, with Sons looking less flexible following the loss of Christian Nade to a knock in the opening period.

Then on 64 minutes Morton’s Denny Johnstone latched onto a ball in the area and fired home at close range to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Sons pushed back determinedly. The closing minutes were frantic, as the visitors came within a whisker of equalising from an untidy ruck in the six yard box.

But it was not to be. Joe McKee wrapped up the points for Morton by slotting in a second goal two minutes from the end.

Next up in the Ladbrokes Championship for Dumbarton is a trip to Paisley to face St Mirren on Saturday 20th February.
