SONS LOSE OUT TO CLYDE

Saturday 28th September 2019

DESPITE going ahead in the first half, Dumbarton ended up losing 1-2 to Clyde in a frustrating and scrappy game at the C&G Systems Stadium this afternoon.

It was a decidedly nervy start for Sons, as Clyde pushed forward strongly, ‘keeper Conor Brennan was called to make a big early save, and at the other end Ruaridh Langan forced a stop out of David Mitchell.

However as the half wore on Dumbarton came more into the game and deservedly went 1-0 in front on 41 minutes.

PJ Crossan did superbly well to skip by two challenges on the left and drive into the box before his low ball was deflected into the back of the net.

In the second half Clyde struck back after a couple of close shaves for Sons. A free-kick was cleared as far as McStay who fired the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box for 1-1.

On 74 minutes the visitors were ahead. Chris Johnston fired the ball through a busy penalty box and into the corner for 1-2.

Dumbarton had a couple of chances to equalise right at the end, but narrowly missed out on the points in an untidy game.
