DESPITE a solid first half performance against a quality Queen of the South side, Dumbarton suffered another defeat this afternoon, going down 1-0 at Palmerston Park.
Sons put together a number of decent moves in the opening 45 minutes, but ended up being punished after the break for not taking their earlier chances.
It was Paul Heffernan who did the damage for the Doonhamers on 52 minutes. He headed home unmarked from the edge of the box to put the home side in front.
Dumbarton pressed hard for an equaliser, but could not find a way through their opponents’ defence.
It could have been a dramatic ending when first Queens hit the bar, and then Sons’ Kevin Cawley (pictured) struck the base of the post.
But in the end there was no further scoring and no way back for the visitors.
Sons remain one off the foot of the Championship table, with St Mirren and Livingston on the same 10 point tally.
With next weekend’s fixture rescheduled to December by the SPFL, Dumbarton are next in league action at home to Raith Rovers on Saturday 21st November.
