DUMBARTON failed to spoil Dunfermline Athletic’s League One flag party as despite an injury time fightback, they were convincingly beaten by an eventual 4-3 scoreline.
The home side’s Michael Moffat hit a penalty off the post after 14 minutes and four minutes later Robert Thomson put Sons ahead.
But within a further eight minutes the Pars had turned it round with a double by Joe Cardie.
The Dunfermline forward then cashed in on a bad defensive mistake by Sons to make it 3-1 in the second half.
And after another error at the back, David Hopkirk made it 4-1 to a home side who could have had more.
What turned out a tough afternoon for Sons had some respite in injury time when Mark Docherty converted a penalty after Michael Paton fouled David Smith.
Remarkably the deficit was then reduced to a goal when Lee Ashcroft hauled down Robert Thomson and was sent off. Docherty again converted.
One positive for Sons was a promising debut display from young midfielder Joe Thomson (pictured), signed on loan from Celtic.
Next up for Sons is a home game with newly relegated Dundee United, who drew 1-1 with Queen of the South today.
