TWO second half goals saw Dumbarton go down 2-1 to Dundee United at Tannadice this afternoon, in a hard fought game.
There were opportunities for both sides in a busy first half.
United hit the post early on, while Sons forced home ‘keeper Cammy Bell into some great saves.
The match remained deadlocked until 52 minutes, when a corner from United was headed into his own net by Mark Docherty.
It was rotten luck and not what Dumbarton deserved after some determined play.
On 65 minutes the hosts went 2-0 in front.
French defender William Emery Edjenguélé converted from close range after Sons goalie Alan Martin had made a a good save from a corner.
Robert Thomson gave Dumbarton hope on 71 minutes, knocking the ball home from close range.
Minutes later Sam Stanton appeared to be hauled down as he burst through in search of an equaliser, but no free kick was awarded.
The result leaves the men from the Rock in ninth place in the Championship table on six points, though they have played a game more than bottom side St Mirren on four.
Next up for Sons is a home game against Dunfermline at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium in a week’s time.
