SONS LOSE AT IBROX

Saturday 23rd August 2014

DUMBARTON’S first visit to Ibrox for two decades ended in defeat this afternoon, as Rangers coasted to a comfortable 4-1 victory.

After a good initial spell and a chance for Colin Nish, which Rangers ‘keeper Steve Simenson clawed away, Dumbarton came under sustained pressure for most of the half.

The bright opening was brought to an end on 14 minutes when Gers’ Lee McCulloch drove home a Lewis MacLeod corner to make it 1-0.

Just before the half hour the home side made it two when Darren McGregor latched on to a though ball and beat Danny Rogers at his near post.

Sons came close before the end of the first half when an Archie Campbell header was just marshalled away by Simenson.

It continued to be mostly one-way traffic after the break.

Rogers made a superb save to deny Nicky Law before, short of the hour, Nicky Clark broke through for Rangers to increase the lead to 3-0.

Sons added to their own woes on 75 minutes, when a scramble at the back ended in a Chris Turner own goal.

Bilel Mohsni repaid the favour five minutes later when his misplaced defensive header ended up in Rangers’ net to make the final score 4-1.
