DUMBARTON’S winning run ended on the road at the Broadwood Stadium this afternoon, as two second half goals from Clyde claimed all three points from a 2-0 win.
Sons depended on some determined goalkeeping from Conor Brennan, gutsy defending and a couple of strokes of luck to keep the hosts at bay during the first 45 minutes.
The visitors looked to find an advantage themselves after the break, but instead it was Clyde who went ahead just three minutes away from the restart.
David Goodwillie who did the initial damage, nipping in at the back before rounding ‘keeper Brennan and slotting the ball home for 1-0.
Dumbarton were still in with a shout in the second half, until Rankin sealed the match with a quick break and an emphatic finish on 89 minutes.
The result leaves Sons in sixth place in SPFL League One. But nine points from the last four games has strengthened their position.
