DUMBARTON make the trip to Methil this weekend, to face SPFL League Two opponents East Fife in the first round of the 2015-16 Scottish League Cup competition.
But whatever the result, the real focus will remain on the Championship opener on 8th August.
The new look Sons are in buoyant mood after their win at Cappielow last weekend, and will be hoping to show signs of progress before Championship league action kicks off at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium on 8th August.
Kick-off against East Fife is at 3pm on Saturday 1st August at the Bayview Park stadium.
Boss Stevie Aitken comments: “It’s important early in the season to build up a bit of momentum.
“I want to get into a winning pattern because that obviously gives players confidence.
“I think it’s important to build on that early in the season and that’s what we will be aiming to do continuing with this game against East Fife.”
Sons’ opponents come into this match off the back of a 3-1 defeat away to Falkirk in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup on Saturday 25th July.
Meanwhile Dumbarton secured a 3-2 victory against newly-promoted Championship side and local rivals Greenock Morton in the same competition.
