SONS HOLD ROVERS TO DRAW OVER 90 MINUTES

Tuesday 19th July 2022

DUMBARTON have held Raith Rovers to a 0-0 draw in tonight’s Premier Sports Cup tie, with the Kirkcaldy side claiming the bonus point on penalties.

A determined and resolute performance maintained the clean sheet, while Sons had a couple of unlucky breaks in search of goals themselves.

Raith were first to seriously threaten when a quick counter attack allowed Aidan Connolly to run in on goal, but Harry Broun (pictured) made a fine save.

Sons responded with a Callum Wilson effort which forced a fine save from the Raith keeper.

At half time, a corner by Wilson was headed across goal by Gregor Buchanan, just missing a touch to put it away.

Neither goalkeeper was really tested during the second half until its late stages, with Broun doing brilliantly to keep out a Dylan Easton effort.

The 90 minutes ended with neither team finding the net, and a penalty shootout took place to decide the bonus point.

The shootout went as follows (Sons score first):

0-0: Gullan SAVED
0-0: Buchanan SAVED
0-1: Berra SCORED
0-1: Byrne WIDE
0-2: Millen SCORED
1-2: McKee SCORED
1-2: Dick SAVED
2-2: Love SCORED
2-3: Easton SCORED
2-3: Carswell SAVED
