IN a positive workout ahead of the competitive season beginning, Dumbarton have won 3-0 away to Workington AFC in tonight’s friendly match at Borough Park.
A first half avalanche of goals swung the game in their favour, beginning in the third minute when Ryan Wallace glanced home a cross by David Wilson.
After 21 minutes a Workington defender was punished for handball inside his own area, and Stuart Carswell stepped up to score the penalty off the post.
And four minutes from half time, Ross MacLean (pictured) made it 3-0 with a fine individual goal, beating a defender out wide and cutting inside to lob the keeper.
The second half saw no further goals, but all outfield players were given a chance to impress in a raft of second half substitutions.
These included three trialists, one of whom started the game. As well as Carswell, Gregg Wylde made a return to the team after missing Saturday’s win at Gretna.
Sons do have one more friendly lined up, away to Irvine Meadow XI on Saturday, July 23, which kicks off at 12.30pm.
But first it is on to competitive action, starting with Saturday’s opening Premier Sports Cup tie at home to Stirling Albion.
