SONS HIT FOUR TO BEAT BRECHIN

Saturday 1st December 2018

DUMBARTON turned on the goals in the second half against Brechin City at the C&G Systems Stadium this afternoon, running out deserved 4-1 winners with a fine display.

The first half was virtually all Sons, but four of five chances went begging as the home side struggled to turn dominance into a lead.

On 38 minutes a slip at the back for Brechin put Dom Thomas through on goal, but his shot scuffed wide.

After the break City began to push back, but it was Dumbarton who grabbed a deserved lead on 52 minutes.

Thomas’s shot from the edge of the area was helped on by Calum Gallagher to put the home side one up.

Just two minutes later it was 2-0, as Ross Forbes lashed a fabulous free kick into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out.

It could have been virtually game over on 56 minutes when Dom Thomas beautifully set up Michael Paton. But his shot blazed over the bar.

Then Thomas made it 3-0 himself with a sublime low strike to the near post after some highly skilled manoeuvring on 69 minutes.

However Jordan Sinclair pulled a goal back a couple of minutes later, with Brechin threatening to come back into the match in the closing stages.

But Sons kept going, and on 83 minutes Gallagher grabbed his second and his side’s fourth goal with a close range finish — after a blistering run by Man of the Match Thomas.
