DUMBARTON lost out by a single goal against full-timers Queen of the South this afternoon, in an entertaining Ramsdens Cup match at the Rock.
The game remained goalless after a fast, competitive first half. With both sides vying for control in the centre of the park, there were chances at both ends.
Dumbarton ‘keeper Stephen Grindlay put in a string of impressive saves when Queens looked most threatening.
The pace increased even more after the break. Penalty claims were denied at both ends in a match containing plenty of incident and excitement.
The killer punch came on 68 minutes when the visitors’ Nicky Clark nodded in a header at the end of a swift counter-attacking move. Sons pressed for an equaliser, but could not find one.
Keeper Grindlay was named Ramsdens man of the match, and received his award from Robbi Docherty.
Next up is another home match on Saturday 4th August, when Albion Rovers come calling in the Scottish Communities League Cup.
