DUMBARTON put on a fine display against Championship leaders Hibernian at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium this afternoon, and were unlucky to go down 1-0 to one of the visitors’ few chances.
Sons started brightly and had the first chance on seven minutes as Garry Fleming and Lewis Vaughan linked up, before a corner was won and cleared.
Six minutes later Hibs were in front. Dumbarton failed to clear their lines and Kris Commons fired the ball home through a busy penalty box for 1-0.
The home side continued to play well and press forward, with Harvie and Vaughan inches from threatening an equaliser.
At half time Sons could count themselves unfortunate to be behind, having given a good account of themselves.
After the break Dumbarton piled the pressure on and enjoyed a raft of half chances, but nothing would go in for them.
Christian Nade (pictured with Tom Lang), on for Robert Thomson, and Mark Docherty came close to equalising as the one-way traffic continued close to the final whistle.
Just before the end Nade came agonisingly close to grabbing the goal Sons’ performance deserved, but it was not to be.
Sonstrust Man of the Match was new signing Lewis Vaughan for a very encouraging Dumbarton debut.
