SONS FRUSTRATED BY RAITH

Saturday 26th September 2015

DUMBARTON struggled against Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy this afternoon, going down 1-0 to a second half goal.

The teams were fairly well balanced throughout a close fought but uninspiring first half.

As the match drew nearer to the break Rovers pressed hard and came close to opening their account on several occasions.

Sons almost took the lead early in the second period, when Kevin Cawley’s close range header went just over and bobbled on top of the net.

Then suddenly the home side were ahead. Dumbarton failed to deal with a free kick properly, and Lewis Toshney was on hand to head in for 1-0 to Raith.

Scott Brown and Eamonn Brophy both had shots blocked for Sons, before gaffer Stevie Aitken attempted to shake things up with a double substitution.

However, despite their efforts, the visitors could not find a way through Rovers’ defence.

Next up for Dumbarton is a vital home game against Livingston on Saturday 3rd October.
