DESPITE a spirited second half display, Sons bowed out of the William Hill Scottish Cup this afternoon, losing 1-0 to Rangers.
A Kris Boyd strike right on the half-time whistle was the only goal of the game and was enough to put the Ibrox club into round four.
Sons make a game of it, especially in the second half, with Lee Robinson in the Rangers goal having to look sprightly to keep his team ahead as he denied Andy Graham.
At the other end Jamie Ewings stopped Kris Boyd from doubling Rangers lead with a fine stop when one-on-one with the striker.
Sons final chance to take the game to a replay came via Scott Agnew, but his 20-yard free kick sailed over the bar.
It was a cruel outcome for a good performance from an injury hit side. Manager Ian Murray said: “I thought we deserved to take something from the game, but it wasn’t to be.
“The effort we put in considering all the changes we had to make was terrific.
“We had chances in the game and we are disappointed to be out of the competition.”
