SONS EASE TO 4-1 WIN OVER DIAMONDS

Saturday 20th April 2013

DUMBARTON are now just one point from safety in the First Division, following a convincing 4-1 win over already relegated Airdrie United at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon.

Sons controlled the game comfortably in the first half, going into the break 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Andy Graham, heading in a Scott Agnew free kick, and Paul McGinn, who fired in a pass from Mark Gilhaney.

After the break Dumbarton continued to dominate, with occasional breakaways from Airdrie United. Steven McDougall was quick to capitalise on a scramble at the back on 48 minutes to give the home side a 3-0 lead.

On 64 minutes the Diamonds hit back through Gregor Buchanan. But it never looked like more than a consolation goal.

The game was finally wrapped up by Sonstrust man of the Match Scott Agnew on 74 minutes, as he steamed in to finish the job at 4-1.

With Dunfermline beating Cowdenbeath, Dumbarton still need another point to guarantee safety, or for rivals to drop a point in the last two games of the season.

Sons are away to Cowdenbeath next Saturday, before facing newly crowned First Division Champions Partick Thistle at home on 4th May.
