SONS EASE THROUGH IN THE SCOTTISH CUP

Saturday 3rd November 2012

DUMBARTON brought some cheer to a cold, rainy afternoon with a decisive 4-1 victory against East Stirlingshire in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

The Third Division visitors showed real determination in the first half, but it was Sons who went ahead when Andy Graham nodded home on 12 minutes.

There was a post-Halloween fright for Dumbarton just before half time, as David Greenhill steered the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net to level for Shire.

But the home side responded immediately. Jim Lister made it 2-1 to Sons following some good work by Garry Fleming.

After the break there were chances for both teams. It took a third goal — a tap in from Bryan Prunty latching on to a sweeping ball from the right — for Dumbarton to look comfortable. Just short of the final whistle Alan Lithgow rose to make it four goals for Sons.

The draw for the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup takes place at 2.30pm on Monday 5th November at Hampden Museum.
