SONS EARN CUP REPLAY AGAINST DUNDEE

Saturday 6th February 2016

DUMBARTON put in a strong performance against Premiership side Dundee this afternoon, earning a deserved William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round replay after a 0-0 draw at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium.

Dundee certainly dominated play in the opening period, striking the post and pressing hard all around the area.

But as the half progressed Sons created more openings, with new front man Christian Nade (pictured) looking sharp and eager.

The Dark Blues looked as if they had opened the scoring just before half time. Kane Hemmings hooked the ball over keeper Jamie Ewings, only for Mark Docherty to clear the ball off the line for Dumbarton.

After the break Dundee resumed the pressure. Hemmings had the ball in the net on 55 minutes, but from a clearly offside position.

For the rest of the half, Dumbarton defended resolutely, contested strongly in the middle of the park and pressed well when they got breaks up front.

In the end neither side could find a goal in a hard fought match, but Dumbarton’s display thoroughly merited a replay at Dundee.

Next up for Sons is a short trip to Cappielow this coming weekend for another SPFL Championship tussle with Greenock Morton.
