SONS EARN 1-1 DRAW AGAINST HIBS

Saturday 29th June 2013

DUMBARTON made a sprightly start to their pre-season campaign at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon, claiming a creditable 1-1 draw against SPL visitors Hibernian.

A thousand supporters, including a good number from Edinburgh, turned out to watch an entertaining encounter between two sides looking to settle in new players and develop some shape for the rigours that lie ahead.

The first half was a slightly cagey affair, with chances at both ends. Sons came agonisingly close to going ahead when Kevin Smith latched on to a long ball. He lobbed Ben Williams in the Hibs goal, seeing his attempt hit the inside of the post before being cleared by Paul Hanlon.

In the second half the pace increased, and the visitors enjoyed a raft of chances as they pressed forward. On 50 minutes Alex Harris put Hibernian 1-0 in front, capitalising on a fortunate rebound.

Two minutes later, Dumbarton were level. Great work from Mitchell Megginson (pictured) set up Ally McKerracher for a well taken equaliser.

Hibs could have made more of several opportunities to retake the lead in the remaining 38 minutes, but Sons defended well. At the other end, Scott Agnew tested Williams with a curving strike which the ‘keeper handled calmly.
