DUMBARTON and Raith Rovers ended their SPFL Championship seasons with an honourable 2-2 draw at the Rock this afternoon.
After putting some good passing moves together early in the first half, Sons deservedly went ahead on 21 minutes.
A fine, curling shot from Garry Fleming struck the inside of the post. As Rovers’ keeper McGurn struggled, Jordan Kirkpatrick was on hand to tap the ball home for 1-0.
In the second half Raith came out strong, and were almost immediately rewarded when Stewart got on the end of a through pass and slotted past Danny Rogers to level the score on 53 minutes.
Six minutes later the visitors went 2-1 ahead. Vaughan capitalised on a poor kick out from goal to produce an excellent lob over Rogers and into the empty net.
However it was Sons who had the last word in the game.
Substitute Donald McCallum did well to get a cross in. The ball broke to Sonstrust Man of the Match Scott Agnew, who struck a fine outswinger with his unfavoured right-foot to equalise on 78 minutes.
Dumbarton pressed hard for a winner in the closing minutes, but neither side was able to break the deadlock before the final whistle.
The Sons are now formally confirmed as having finished in seventh position in the SPFL Championship for 2014/15.
