SONS DRAW IN METHIL

Saturday 21st September 2019

DUMBARTON lived dangerously, went two up and then had to take a 2-2 draw in a topsy-turvy game against East Fife at Methil.

The Fifers definitely had their tails up for much of the first half.

Sons survived a penalty appeal and several goalmouth scrambles before eventually taking the lead on 37 minutes.

Hart pulled off a smart save to deny Neill’s header, but the ‘keeper had no hope in saving McGeever’s effort as he crashed a header into the corner for 1-0.

Dumbarton went 2-0 ahead early in the second half. McCluskey went down over a trailing leg and Layne stepped up to send Hart the wrong way from the penalty spot.

East Fife were back in the game on 57 minutes, however. An effort at the back post was forced in by Murdoch to pull the score back to 2-1.

On 74 minutes the turnaround was complete. A foul by McGeever in the box gave Agnew the chance to drill the ball through Brennan for 2-2.

In the end both sides had further chances but had to end up settling for the draw.
