SONS DRAW AGAINST MONTROSE

Saturday 26th January 2019

DUMBARTON were minutes away from a victory against Montrose at the C&G Systems Stadium this afternoon, but a late penalty for the visitors meant that the game ended with honours even at 1-1.

Sons started with two trialists in the squad, as well as new midweek signing David Ferguson.

The first half was competitive, but with neither side really imposing themselves on the opposition or finding a breakthrough.

The visitors piled on the pressure after the break, but the home side managed to hold their ground.

On 82 minutes Adam was replaced in goal by Smith, after going down injured twice in a matter of minutes.

Shortly afterwards Sons went into the lead. Ross Forbes sent a free kick into the area and Trialist Boris Melingui (pictured), later named man of the match, headed it home for 1-0.

That left just seven minutes and time added on to secure a vital win. But on 88 minutes Smith committed a foul in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Rennie converted for Montrose to make it 1-1.

That is how the game ended. The result sees Dumbarton slip into ninth position in League One, with 20 points secured from 22 games.

Next up for Dumbarton is a trip to take on Airdrieonians on Saturday 2nd February.
