SONS CUP MISERY CONTINUES

SONS dismal record in the Petrofac Training Cup continued at Stair Park today with a 3-2 defeat against Stranraer.

Despite taking a 2-0 lead into the half-time break via goals from Kirkpatrick and Gilhaney, Stranraer staged a second half fight back to progress to round two.

Sean Winter scored an injury-time winner as Stranraer came from certain defeat to stun Dumbarton.

The Sons went ahead when Jordan Kirkpatrick’s shot-come-cross went into the net and doubled their lead through Mark Gilhaney just before half-time.

Frank McKeown’s 20-yard strike gave the Stair Park side hope before his looping header made it 2-2.

Winter’s acrobatic finish won the game form the League One team four minutes into injury time.

Sons now face a stiff midweek test against Carlisle United in a friendly before heading to Glebe Park next Saturday to play Brechin City in the League Cup.
