DUMBARTON crushed struggling East Fife 5-0 in their cinch League One match at the Rock.
Following the morale-boosting away win at Montrose two weeks ago, Sons — wearing their black shirts and yellow shorts away kit — were hoping to record back to back wins for the first time in the same league season since the early stages of the 2020/21 campaign.
After early opportunities at both ends, Sons opened the scoring against the Fifers, all in red, in the 13th minute. Conner Duthie’s free kick was headed towards goal by Ryan McGeever, and when keeper Scott Gallacher palmed the ball out top scorer Ross MacLean netted from close range.
Three minutes later Callum Wilson (pictured) could not quite capitalise on an Edin Lynch cross, and at the other end in the 29th minute a 30 yard free kick from Scott Mercer hit the bar and bounced over. Soon after Kieran Millar was booked for halting a MacLean breakaway.
Just before half-time Gregor Buchanan made it 2-0, finishing neatly from a great Wilson cross.
The second half saw an early booking for MacLean for a foul on a defender, and a minute he came close to scoring again when his shot hit the far post. But it was not long before the home side scored again, with Buchanan netting his second — again from a Wilson cross.
In the 70th minute Ryan Schiavone and fit again Joe McKee replaced MacLean and Wilson. A minute later Ryan McGeever made it 4-0 after Kalvin Orsi headed across goal to him, and shortly afterwards Eoghan Stokes replaced Duthie.
Shortly before the full-time whistle a McKee corner was netted by Stokes to end an excellent 90 minutes for Stevie Farrell’s men.
