DUMBARTON won through by a single second half goal to claim victory against Peterhead in a gritty, windy game at the C&G Systems Stadium this afternoon.

After a lively opening spell from the visitors, in which they had a couple of chances to take the lead, the game settled down into a tight tussle.

Neither side could find a breakthrough in the first 45 minutes, and the windy conditions didn’t help.

After the break Dumbarton broke the deadlock. On 54 minutes Isaac Layne put the ball across goal and Ryan McGeever turned it home for 1-0.

Peterhead continued to enjoy more of the possession for much of the second half, but Sons hung on determinedly for a vital three points.
