SONS BEAT RANGERS IN RESERVE LEAGUE

Tuesday 2nd October 2012

DUMBARTON achieved a morale boosting 2-0 win over Rangers in a competitive, entertaining SFL Reserve League game at Murray Park in Glasgow this evening.

The two teams matched each other in all areas of the field during the course of a goalless first half, with the home side edging it in terms of possession and chances.

After the break Dumbarton upped the pace and were rewarded on the hour, when a fine through ball from Gary McKell was picked up by Ryan Metcalfe, who finished with a firm, low strike.

Rangers immediately began pressing back and almost equalised when a fast shot rebounded off the inside of Jamie Ewings’ post.

But Sons sealed the match on 84 minutes. The referee pointed to the spot after an infringement in the box.

Ryan Metcalfe stepped up to convert the spot-kick confidently, claiming a brace for himself and securing a deserved 2-0 victory for Dumbarton.
