SONS BEAT LOONS IN GOALFEST

Saturday 14th December 2019

DUMBARTON won a breathless encounter against Forfar Athletic at Station Park this afternoon, running out 4-3 winners after clawing their way back into a hectic game.

Travis opened for the visitors after only a couple of minutes, but Joe McKee pulled an equaliser back from the edge of the area on 22 minutes.

Just before the half hour the Loons led again, with Travis and his team claiming a second goal – this time headed home unchalleged from Forbes’ corner.

Sons were level again at 2-2 shortly before the break. PJ Crossan turned and fired home on 44 minutes.

But it was Forfar who went in 3-2 up at half-time, as Hilson stabbed home a penalty two minutes into time added on, following an infringement on Tapping by Adam Frizzell.

After the break Sons pushed back. Reghan Tumelty thundered home a volley just before the hour to equalise for a second time.

Then on 73 minutes PJ Crossan cut inside. His shot hit the post, hit the ‘keeper’s back, and trickled home for the 4-3 winner.

The result keeps Dumbarton in sixth place in League One, on a healthy 24 points.
