DUMBARTON secured a fine 2-1 win in a hard-fought game against league leaders Hamilton Accies at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon.
Speaking after the match, Sons gaffer Ian Murray said: “It was an open game… and a deserved win for us in the end.”
Dumbarton went ahead on 11 minutes when Garry Fleming latched on to a ball in the area and struck firmly past Kevin Cuthbert in the visitors’ goal.
Both sides had chances before the break, with the woodwork taking a battering at either end.
But it was Accies who broke back when Mickael Antoine-Curier got in behind Sons’ defence and set up a simple finish for James Keatings.
In the second half, Sons pressed forward with determination, occasionally looking vulnerable at the back but holding firm.
The winner came from a Mark Gilhaney corner. Captain Andy Graham (pictured), who was also named the Sonstrust’s Man of the Match, bundled the ball in at the near post.
A victory in the final home game of the year puts Sons back into seventh place in the SPFL Championship.
The positive result sets up the team well for a demanding away trip to see out 2013 at Dundee on Saturday 28th December.
