A FANTASTIC second half fight-back saw Dumbarton triumph 4-3 over struggling Dunfermline Athletic, having twice gone two behind on a freezing afternoon at East End Park.

At different stages in the second half, Sons were 2-0 and 3-1 down, but they showed immense determination and fortitude to claim three late goals and then to defend their lead as the Pars pushed hard to get something out of the game.

The first half had been a general disappointment. Dumbarton’s forward raids went unrewarded and they showed too much of the ball to the home side in central defence.

It was therefore little surprise when Ryan Wallace gave Dunfermline a 1-0 lead four minutes before the interval.

Things got worse after the break when Andy Barrowman made it 2-0 on 49 minutes. Steven McDougall immediately pulled a goal back for Sons, only for Barrowman to make it 3-1 five minutes later.

It looked as if it was not going to be Dumbarton’s afternoon. But a fantastic strike from hard-working Chris Turner (59 minutes) and a goal Scott Agnew (65 minutes) turned the game around, before McDougall hit again six minutes from time to give the points deservedly to Sons.

Next up for Dumbarton is a home game against Raith Rovers on Wednesday night, 27th March, followed by consecutive trips to Hamilton on Saturday 30th March and Tuesday 2nd April.
