DUMBARTON are set to face Raith Rovers again next season as the 2016/17 Championship takes further shape.

Despite a 1-0 advantage from Wednesday’s first leg, the Kirkcaldy side have lost the play-off quarter-final to Hibs on aggregate after a 2-0 defeat today at Easter Road.

That means Raith will be in next sason’s Championship along with Sons, Dundee United, Morton, St Mirren, Queen of the South and Dunfermline Athletic.

And although commiserations are extended to Raith, the neutrals will no doubt be pleased they are coming back to Dumbarton. Since Sons’ promotion in 2012, their eight meetings with Rovers beside the Rock have generated 39 goals in total!

It is still possible that Hibs could be there if they go on to lose to Falkirk in the semi-final, or to Kilmarnock in the final.

Killie’s place in the final was confirmed today when they lost 2-0 at home to Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies won 1-0 at Dundee.
