SONS AND JAGS ENTERTAIN IN THE SUN

Saturday 13th July 2013

THERE were plenty of goals in the sunshine at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon, as Partick Thistle pipped Dumbarton 4-3 in an entertaining friendly game.

Sons, giving Scott Linton (pictured) and new signing Kevin Smith home debuts, went ahead early, when Mark Gilhaney headed home from close range on 5 minutes. But the Jags levelled six minutes later from Steven Lawless.

Ex-Dumbarton man Ross Forbes gave the visitors the lead on 21 minutes, and James Craigen made it three for the newly promoted SPL side on the half hour.

Sons soon struck back after the break. Gilhaney, returning to the side after his holiday, set up Scott Agnew to slot home with a cool finish to make it 3-2.

Shortly before the hour, Thistle trialist Mark Kerr pulled the score back to 4-2. However, Dumbarton had the last word with a good goal from Mitch Megginson.

Sons manager Ian Murray commented afterwards: “We know that it wasn’t good enough from us in the first half, but we picked up well as a team in the second.”

A large group of special visitors from Darlington Soccer Club, based near Toronto in Ontario, Canada, were at the game as guests of the Dumbarton FC this afternoon.

Full match report and photos both now online.
