PIE. Bovril. Programme.
For many football fans, the three must-purchase items ahead of the new season. And things that, in some quarters, are taken for granted.
But while the catering staff at Dumbarton take care of the first two, the Sons Supporters Trust is helping ensure the programme goes from strength to strength.
Some clubs have had to end the hard-copy programmes available at every game due to financial measures.
However, during season 2016/17, a dedicated team of volunteers aims to ensure that Sons View will be available for every home fixture.
Two editions of this season’s programme have already gone on sale, both of them joint issues. The first covered the friendlies with Dundee and Motherwell (cover pictured) with the second taking care of the Betfred Cup ties against East Fife and Peterhead.
Perhaps the most eye-catching addition to the programme this season is the series focusing on the campaign of 1991/92.
That season is, of course, celebrating its silver anniversary over the next year. It was a momentous season for Sons…but if you don’t want to know why, we won’t spoil it for you!
Sons media team members Simon Barrow and Andy Galloway continue their regular items on what’s what in the world of football, while the club’s growing pool of photographers contributes sterling action pictures.
And the programme will continue its unrivalled coverage of the visiting team, with coverage which in the words of Programme Monthly in 2015, “makes the effort to be different.”
The match reviews and news pages will also keep you up to speed on any matches you have missed in the preceding weeks.
But the written content isn’t the full story. Such has been the evolution of the programme in recent years that the design is one of the best in the division as well.
This side of it is contributed by Garthland Print Ltd, who are entering their third season as producers of Sons View.
The Glasgow-based company’s handiwork has added further colour and creativity, and all involved with the programme thank them for their assistance to date.
Between the artistic and written efforts, what more could you look for in a matchday publication?
It’s only £2.50, and available from outlets throughout the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium. Pick up a copy on your next visit – hopefully next Saturday against Dundee United.
