DEFENDER David Ferguson has joined Dumbarton on loan from Ayr United until the end of the season, subject to paperwork being completed.
The 22-year-old started his career with Motherwell before joining the Honest Men in 2017.
But he is not entirely unfamiliar with wearing the Sons colours, as he played in the pre-season friendly with Hearts as a trialist. In the end he rejoined Ayr.
Manager Jim Duffy said: “It is absolutely no secret that we need to add to our squad and I’m pleased to bring David on board to do that. He will do a job for us.”
The boss also revealed that injury cost him the chance to bring a familiar face back to the C&G Systems Stadium.
He said: “We had everything in place for a deal for Sam Wardrop to return to the club for the rest of the season.
“But the player then sustained an injury. It is a real shame for the club and the player, who we wish well in his recovery.
“As a club, we will look to continue to move forward.”
