SONS head of youth Richie Salveta rounded off a very busy week at the Dumbarton Football Stadium with a note of thanks to his staff.
We caught up with him at the conclusion of the under-13s introductory meeting last night and he had this to say.
“Our under 14s had a game last Sunday 17th May against Stirling Albion at Forthbank Astro and this additional match had been arranged as a chance to cast the eye over a number of trialists, who we had identified over the previous few weeks.
“The game went very well and some of our continuing players going onto next seasons 15s squad, mixed with some of the trialists put in a very encouraging performance as we look forward to next season.
“These type of games have been happening over the past number of weeks at all age levels within the academy.
“On Tuesday (19th) we had our player review night for all our squads in what is a difficult night for our Academy Staff as we look to take our Youth Academy forward into season 15/16.
“Now that this has taken place we will be working hard over the next few weeks to combine the best available elite academy players and top boys club players within the West of Scotland area to compliment the quality of player our club has retained to move forward into next season’s squads.
“Everyone involved with the Sons YDI have worked extremely hard in the past season.
“The time and commitment shown by our coaches has been nothing short of incredible, juggling home life, work and then the demands of our professional set-up at the Sons Academy.
“I’d like to take this public opportunity to thank each coach and everyone – and I truly mean everyone – who has contributed to the ongoing development of the players.
“It’s all about looking forward and everyone is energised for the up and coming season.”
