SONS head of youth Richie Salveta is a reasonably pleased man as he reflected on the season just ended for our under-20s development squad.
On a bright sunny morning, we caught up with the enthusiastic coach before he started his most important task of the day – breakfast!
He told us : “Last nights game versus Annan Athletic brought our competitive season to an end.
“It has been a pleasing season overall as we had spoken with the players before a ball was kicked and made sure they knew that success for us would be measured by the amount of players involved in the first team squad.
“While we were pleased that 18-year old Donald McCallum and 17 year-olds Keir Whitefield and Daniel Lightbody were involved throughout the season at first team level, our next target is to get an even higher standard of quality and consistency from them to push for game time in the first eleven.”

Richie continued : “We also want other players to step up and show they deserve to be involved in the first team environment.
“This won’t be an easy task as the quality of teams in the Championship for next season could possibly be similar to this season.
“This is the challenge we face but we will meet it head on and are determined to give the players every opportunity to get to the level required.
“All in all it has been an enjoyable season working with a talented group of players and every day is a learning day for them and for us as coaches.
“We look forward to next season with eager anticipation of where we can get to and how we will get there.”
